Tennessee Vols defensive back Trevon Flowers said goodbye to UT on Saturday via a heartfelt message on social media.
Flowers, who signed with Tennessee during the 2018 recruiting cycle, is heading to the NFL after spending the last five seasons in Knoxville. The Atlanta, GA native expressed his love for Tennessee while thanking the two head coaches he played for at UT — Jeremy Pruitt and Josh Heupel.
"First and foremost I would like to thank God who has blessed me beyond belief," wrote Flowers. "He has allowed me to play the game I love at the University I love, and for that I am forever grateful. I am also blessed to be surrounded by such love and support from my mom and family. You mean the world to me."
"Tennessee means everything to me. Tennessee took a chance on me as a kid who played just one year of high school football but aspired to play at the top of the collegiate game. Now, I can say with my whole heart that I gave my all for Tennessee every day."
"To the coaches who have guided me along the way, both Coach Heupel and Coach Pruitt, I thank you. I grew a lot in my time on Rocky Top, as a man, as a leader and as a player, and you were the driving force behind that. I feel confident that I will be able to go out into the world as a leader because of what you both taught me."
"And to my teammates, it has been an honor and a privilege to play alongside you. We created memories that will last a lifetime and we did it together. I am humbled that you all entrusted me to be a captain of this team and the future of this program looks brighter and brighter every single day with the work you all put into it."
"I am excited to pursue a career in pro football as I begin the process of getting ready for the NFL Draft, but Tennessee will forever be home sweet home to me."
Flowers, who could've also played college baseball, was a key player for the Vols over the last several years.
He battled injuries at times, but when he was on the field, he was one of Tennessee's main defensive leaders.
Flowers wasn't able to play in the Vols' win against Clemson in the Orange Bowl due to injury, but he played a vital part in Tennessee's return to relevancy this season.
In fact, it could be argued that Flowers' interception against Pittsburgh earlier this year was a defining moment of the season. At the time of the interception, it looked like the Vols were about to go down 17-0. Flowers' interception, however, turned the momentum in the Vols' favor.
If Flowers doesn't make that play, Tennessee's magical season might never happen.
But fortunately for Vols fans, he made the play and the rest is history.
