Vols fans won't like the method Clemson is using on a UT recruiting target
Tennessee Vols fans won’t love the recruiting method the Clemson Tigers are using to land a UT target
One of the Tennessee Vols' most intriguing 2024 recruiting targets is four-star wide receiver Amari Jefferson.
Jefferson, 6-foot-1/195 lbs from Chattanooga, TN, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 8 player in the state of Tennessee.
The talented recruit is actually committed to Tennessee baseball, but he's expected to commit to a program for football and then walk onto the baseball team. Tennessee is recruiting Jefferson for both and the Vols are very much in the mix to land the Chattanooga native.
The Vols are facing some heavy competition for Jefferson. Several top programs are pursuing the four-star wide receiver, including the Clemson Tigers.
Clemson hosted Jefferson this past weekend and they used a recruiting method that Vols fans won't like.
On Sunday, Jefferson tweeted out some photos from his visit. One of the photos showed Jefferson in a Clemson uniform holding a Tennessee state flag.
That just feels…awkward.
I get it — Clemson is doing what they have to do in order to land a top recruit. But using the Tennessee state flag on a recruiting visit in South Carolina feels a bit strange.
We'll see where this recruiting battle goes. The Vols have as good of a shot as anyone to land Jefferson — the familiarity with Tony Vitello and the Tennessee baseball program could certainly help. And the fact that the Vols are the home state program should help, too.
It certainly feels like Clemson is trying hard to emulate Tennessee these days. First, the news came out that the Tigers are going to run an offense similar to the Vols' offense. Now they're handing out a Tennessee state flag to a key recruit.
I guess the Vols made quite an impact on Dabo Swinney and Clemson during Tennessee's 17-point win over the Tigers in the Orange Bowl.
