There's been some speculation from Tennessee Vols fans over the last few days that UT's football team was thinking a little too much about Florida this past weekend instead of Austin Peay.

Whether or not that's accurate is anyone's guess. It's doubtful that every player on Tennessee's roster was looking past Austin Peay. In fact, I'm not sure anyone on the roster consciously looked past Austin Peay in preparation for the Florida game.

But when a game against a rival looms — especially one that will shape how the rest of the season looks — it's natural to look ahead a little (even if it's unintentional).

Fortunately for the Vols, it sounds like Tennessee's players are locked in this week for the matchup against Florida. And despite the Gators' lackluster season-opening loss to Utah, the Vols aren't taking Florida lightly.

"They got a good squad over there," said Vols redshirt senior cornerback Warren Burrell on Tuesday. "They got a couple of experienced guys. They got a couple of young explosive guys…they're a good team. It's the SEC — everywhere you go you're going to play real big boy football."

"They're not a team that we're taking lightly," added Burrell. "We're going to go about our process every day the same way and play our game."

Tennessee knows the importance of winning in the Swamp on Saturday. They know if they don't come out focused and determined, then they likely aren't leaving Gainesville with a win. And they understand that without a win against Florida, it's unlikely the Tennessee will win the SEC East this season.

If the 2023 season goes to plan for Tennessee, there will be several "big games" this season. But the Vols have to keep winning if the games are going to continue getting bigger.
