The Tennessee Vols were already a "love 'em or hate 'em" team before Sunday's night matchup against Georgia Tech.
Tennessee has ruffled the feathers of opposing fan bases all season long thanks to their brash playing style.
On Sunday night, Vols outfielder Jordan Beck ensured that the Vols will continue to be hated by fans outside of Tennessee.
Beck tied the game at four with an RBI double in the top of the 9th inning. As Beck rounded first, he appeared to flip off the Yellow Jackets' outfield.
After the game, Beck didn't specifically address the gesture, but he noted that he "blacked out" after getting the hit.
"I was super excited," said Beck. "I had a little bit of a blackout moment. I told myself I wasn't going to let the guy beat me."
Beck also revealed — to the surprise of no one — that Tennessee thrives on late-game situations where a comeback is necessary.
"We don't fear many people," explained Beck. "Even when we are down we have more motivation. Games are more fun when they are close like that, you can see the competitiveness come out in us."
Flipping off the entire outfield probably isn't the best idea by Beck. But at the same time, this is a passionate team. And he was clearly in the moment. The edge that Tennessee has is why the Vols have been so good all season long.
Tennessee is talented — there's no doubt about that — but the biggest reason the Vols have been so dominant this season is because they continue to play with a chip on their shoulder.
Beck channeling his inner-Rashaan Gaulden is only going to serve to make Tennessee an even more hated team. Which is just going to make the Vols that much tougher to beat the rest of the season.
