On Monday, Tennessee Vols redshirt senior linebacker Aaron Beasley inadvertently offered a reminder to fans that the Josh Heupel era at UT is a complete 180 from the Butch Jones era.
Beasley was asked by a reporter if Tennessee has a "motto" entering the 2023 season.
The veteran defender was quick to point out that Tennessee's only "motto" this fall is to just win.
"Just go win, win them all" said Beasley. "Our team goal is general is to win the [SEC] East. So we're focused on that. But we're taking it week by week, one opponent at a time. And just being the best each week. Each Saturday, being the best team on the field."
That's gotta be a refreshing answer for Vols fans.
It wasn't that long ago that Butch Jones was leading Tennessee's football program and utilizing mottos/slogans/clichés nearly every day.
Who can forget "Brick by Brick" or "DAT way" (details, accountability, and toughness).
At one point, Jones even defended the slogans by saying that every program in the nation uses them (and he seemed to take a shot the local media, too).
"I kind of chuckle because I’ve educated some of the members of our local media that every coach has those," said Jones just before the start of his final season at UT. "For some reason at Tennessee, I think it’s all kind of blown out of proportion because that’s the one topic to talk about."
Jones was clearly wrong because it appears the Heupel and his staff have no need for mottos or slogans — probably because they're more worried about winning games than coming up with a catchy motto.
Though I have to admit, "Just Go Win" (shoutout to the late Al Davis for the inspiration), certainly has a nice ring to it.
Josh Heupel should forever be a legend for what he did during a team meeting before Vols’ win against Alabama
