The 2019 SEC Tournament kicked off on March 13th and finally concluded on March 17th with Auburn (26-9,11-7) claiming the SEC Championship over Tennessee (29-5, 15-3).
The Vols' postseason started on March 15th, when they took on Mississippi State.
Tennessee played a somewhat frustrating game against MS State. The Volunteers controlled the majority of the game, but were never able to sustain a large lead.
After jumping out to a 34-28 lead at halftime, the Vols struggled to separate themselves offensively from the Bulldogs, which resulted in Tennessee narrowly winning 83-76.
However, this game is better remembered for Admiral Schofield's monster dunk than the game itself, as teammate Lucas Campbell describes here:
After defeating Mississippi State, the Vols had a crucial test on their hands. They had to play Kentucky for the third time this season — Tennessee and Kentucky had already beaten each other in blowout fashion earlier in the season.
On the backs of its big three, Grant Williams, Jordan Bone, and Schofield, who combined for 59 of the Vols' 82 total points, Tennessee beat the Wildcats in a back-and-forth semi-final thriller, 82-78.
With winning the rubber match against Kentucky, Tennessee moved on to the SEC Championship game against Auburn — who defeated the Volunteers in the regular season finale.
The championship game was likely the Vols' worst performance of the season, and that includes the blowout loss to Kentucky.
Tennessee took too long to get in a rhythm offensively, which is a grave mistake against Auburn. The Tigers live and die by the three, and they certainly didn't die today.
Tennessee proved that they struggle to guard a team that can effectively shoot from a distance, which may be the Vols' downfall in the NCAA tournament.
