We still have several months until the 2022 preseason AP Top 25 is revealed.
But that didn't stop 247Sports from trying to project how that AP Top 25 poll will look.
247Sports, unsurprisingly, has Alabama at No. 1.
The Tennessee Vols come in at No. 20 in 247Sports' projected AP Top 25. The only SEC East program ranked above the Vols in 247Sports' projection is Georgia.

Here's what 247Sports had to say about the Vols being ranked at No. 20:
Hendon Hooker is back as Tennessee's conductor offensively under Josh Heupel for a team that should challenge for an upper-tier finish in the SEC East. Building on the Volunteers' success in Year 1 under its new regime is the mindset this fall for a team AP voters may inflate just a bit.
This is pretty much where we've been seeing Tennessee ranked in these early preseason top 25 polls.
Not much will change between now and when the actual preseason AP Top 25 is released. And considering a lot of the writers putting out these rankings are the same folks who will be voting, I'd say it's a pretty good indication that the Vols will be ranked somewhere between No. 20 and No. 25.
Rankings, of course, don't directly impact the results on the field. But being ranked in the top 25 is important as it helps in recruiting. Elite recruits usually want to sign with teams that are fixtures in the top 25. The sooner Tennessee can get back to being in the top 25 on a weekly basis, the better it will be for recruiting.
