2024 four-star athlete Boo Carter announced his commitment to the Tennessee Vols on Saturday evening.
Carter, 5-foot-10/184 lbs from Chattanooga, TN, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 17 athlete in the nation and the No. 2 player in the state of Tennessee.
Tennessee's 2024 recruiting class is now ranked No. 10 in the nation according to 247Sports (it had dropped to No. 15 in the nation earlier in June).
Carter can play on either side of the ball, though he's expected to primarily play on the defensive side of the ball at Tennessee.
The Vols' latest commit, however, will also get a chance to play some on the offensive side of the ball at UT.
Carter told On3 after his commitment that Vols head coach Josh Heupel wants him to play on offense, but he's going to learn the defensive back position first.
"When I had the meeting with them, they told me they were going to use me on both sides of the field," explained Carter. "I’m going to be on defense more, but they’ll use me for both.”
“Coach Heupel wants me to play offense, but since I got an offer as a DB first, he said I’ll play DB but I can learn the plays to get to offense," added Carter. "He keeps it real, he’s a good coach, and I like how he treats the players. I know I could fit in at that program.”
Carter has a chance to be a special player for the Vols. And it's clear that Heupel and Tennessee's coaching staff are committed to using Carter's skills in some creative ways that can help the Vols win games.
