Five-star wide receiver Mike Matthews is one of the top commits in the Tennessee Vols' 2024 recruiting class.

Matthews, 6-foot-1/180 lbs from Lilburn, GA, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 4 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 3 player in the state of Georgia. He's also rated as the No. 13 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class.

On Thursday, 247Sports revealed their list the top 50 "freakiest college football recruits" and Matthews was included on their list.

The Tennessee commit was ranked No. 13 on 247Spots' list.

From 247Sports: The scouting department at 247Sports invests a ton of time into researching prospects around the country, and the general consensus behind the scenes is that Mike Matthews has the best basketball mixtape of all the football recruits in the 2024 cycle as he can score off the dribble and finish at the rim. Matthews comes from what he calls a "basketball family" and was dunking as a 5-foot-9 eighth grader. He earned a hoops offer from Mississippi State during his freshman year…In addition to all the baseline jams, what also stands out about Matthews is his electric-timed 4.48 seconds in the 40-yard dash, accompanied by a 4.28-second short shuttle. He will have a chance to put up Jalin Hyatt-like numbers in Tennessee's aerial attack given how he moves and tracks the football.

Matthews will be the highest-rated wide receiver that Josh Heupel's had at Tennessee. And judging by the success that wide receivers have had so far at UT under Heupel, I'd say Matthews has the potential to break some records on Rocky Top — especially since he'll be catching passes from quarterback Nico Iamaleava, the No. 1 overall player in the 2023 recruiting class.
