Tennessee hasn't won a true road game since last season's win against Vanderbilt in Nashville (and that was a road game in name only, as the crowd was mostly clad in orange). Before the Vandy game, the Vols' last road win came in Baton Rouge against LSU last October.
Earlier this week, former Alabama quarterback-turned-analyst Greg McElroy made his prediction for Tennessee's game against Kentucky this weekend.
And while McElroy is still concerned about the Vols' road woes, he thinks Tennessee will get the job done in Lexington on Saturday night.
The biggest reason why McElroy thinks the Vols will get a win against the Wildcats is because he doesn't believe in Kentucky quarterback Devin Leary.
"Devin Leary's gotta play his best game of the season to date if they are going to beat the Tennessee Volunteers," said McElroy. "And the other thing for Kentucky, can they just play clean football and get the rushing attack going?"
"Now, (Kentucky RB) Ray Davis is having a massive year, leads the SEC in rushing yards per game, all purpose yards per game, and touchdowns scored," continued McElroy. "So he's doing everything that he can possibly do to position the Wildcats to be elite down the stretch. But he can't do it by himself. They have not been good. They have not been good as far as turnovers. They have not been good as far as complementing that rush defense."
"You're going against a defense in Tennessee that's really, really good," added McElroy. "No one's been able to get to 200 rushing yards on the Vols this year, just 110 yards given up per game. Combine that with some turnover issues, you (Kentucky) had three against Missouri, multiple in three of the last five games, there's no margin for error for the Kentucky Wildcats in this matchup."
"I like Tennessee to get the job done on the road to alleviate some of the concerns that we've seen from that group on the road," concluded McElroy. "And to finally knock off a team that's really, really good away from their home venue."
Tennessee and Kentucky kick off at 7:00 PM ET on Saturday night. The game will air on ESPN.
