A media outlet that covers Alabama got massively trolled this week ahead of the Crimson Tide's matchup with the Tennessee Vols.
Bama Insider, which is part of the On3.com network, had an entire segment devoted to discussing a one-game suspension for Vols safety Jaylen McCollough, who was arrested over the weekend.
Their discussion centered around a report that said McCollough will play against Alabama and then he'll be suspended for the UT-Martin game the following week.
The only problem?
There hasn't been a suspension announced by Tennessee. Bama Insider fell for a fake tweet from the Richard G West Twitter account, which is a known parody account.
Here's the tweet from "Richard G West".
This isn't the first time something like this has happened — parody accounts get folks all the time.
But I still don't understand how it happens. If the tweet doesn't come from a verified account, you have to check to see who else is reporting it. And in some cases, even if it comes from a verified account, you still might want to check to make sure it's accurate.
There are no excuses for the Bama Insider guys on this one. Tennessee suspending McCollough for a game but letting him play against Alabama is a ridiculous idea that most reporters would've immediately recognized as nonsense.
