The Alabama Crimson Tide are reportedly confident they’ll land a Vol legacy that the Tennessee Vols are also recruiting.

2027 four-star linebacker Kenneth Simon, the son of former Tennessee linebacker Kevin Simon, is one of the most coveted recruits in the nation.

Simon, 6-2, 190 pounds from Brentwood, TN, is rated as the No. 11 linebacker in the nation, and the No. 8 player in the state of Tennessee.

Alabama, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Texas A&M are Simon’s top four schools.

It’s Alabama and Tennessee, though, that are viewed as the top two schools for the Vol legacy.

Alabama and Tennessee both reportedly believe they’ll land Kevin Simon

According to 247Sports’ Tom Loy, Alabama and Tennessee believe they’ll win the battle for Simon.

“The Volunteers fully believe he’ll end up in Knoxville when the dust settles,” wrote Loy of Simon. “However, the Crimson Tide believes Simon is headed to Tuscaloosa. Ole Miss and Texas A&M both believe he is still strongly considering them as well. I lean toward this being a battle between the Tide and Vols. It’s going to be tough to beat the in-state school.”

Loy also noted that Notre Dame could still receive a visit from Simon.

Tennessee was trending in the wrong direction in this recruiting battle before the program made a defensive coordinator change following the 2025 season.

According to Simon’s dad, that change — firing Tim Banks and replacing him with Jim Knowles — has the Volunteers back in the mix for the four-star linebacker.

“I guess I can say it like this: my son was not going to play for Tim Banks,” said Kevin Simon this past week. “He just wasn’t. [There was] no identity, and he just wasn’t gonna play for him. I love that Jim Knowles is here. And Tennessee is definitely back in the mix now (for Kenneth Simon) with Jim Knowles’ presence. So I’m really excited about where the defense is going.”

Simon doesn’t have a planned commitment date.
