Former Alabama Crimson Tide running back Mark Ingram gave Tennessee Vols fans (and Neyland Stadium) a backhanded compliment this week.
Ingram, a former Heisman Trophy winner who went 3-0 against the Vols during his time at Alabama, pointed out Neyland Stadium as one of the top stadiums in college football.
But he made sure to take a shot at Tennessee while doing it.
“There’s nothing like Bryant-Denny (Alabama’s home stadium) for a night game — especially with the 18-time national champions,” said Ingram on The Triple Option. “But if I’m excluding my own stadium, I’ll say Neyland. I’ll say Neyland Stadium. Tennessee, that ugly orange and all those annoying people. Yeah, I’ll say Neyland.”
That’s probably as close to a compliment as Vols fans are getting from a former Bama standout.
Mark Ingram names the most underrated stadium in college football
Ingram also gave Williams-Brice Stadium, the home of the South Carolina Gamecocks, some love.
“I would say so,” said Ingram when asked if Williams-Brice Stadium is the most underrated venue in the sport. “Especially when South Carolina is playing good football. Now, obviously, when teams aren’t doing well, the stadium isn’t what it’s supposed to be….but that place is a tough place to play. Especially when we went there as the No. 1 team in the country and they beat us. They blew the top off of that place.”
Alabama lost 35-21 to South Carolina in 2010 in what was one of the very few letdown performances for the Crimson Tide during the Nick Saban era.
I’m sure Vols fans will begrudgingly agree with Ingram’s take on Williams-Brice Stadium. The Vols are just 2-6 in their last six trips to Columbia (and one of those wins came during the 2020 COVID season when there were only 15,000 fans in the stands).

Former Vols QB Harrison Bailey, who now plays for the Gators, is a reminder of a strange decision that Florida continues to make
Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Harrison Bailey landed with the the Florida Gators this past winter after spending the previous two seasons at Louisville. Bailey, who played at Tennessee from 2020 to 2021, also spent one season (2022) at UNLV. I don’t normally pay close attention to uniform numbers for backup quarterbacks on random SEC teams. […]
