The Tennessee Vols aren’t scheduled to face the awkwardness of going up against a quarterback with the last name of Manning this season. Tennessee doesn’t play Texas—unless the two teams meet in the SEC Championship Game or the College Football Playoff.

That said, Arch Manning could still start two seasons at Texas and may very well return to the Longhorns in 2026.

Arch recently shared some advice he received from his uncle—and Tennessee Vols legend—Peyton Manning. After throwing an interception during a two-minute drill, the Texas quarterback received a long voice message from Peyton, filled with plenty of knowledge.

“The main thing was just start with a completion, have plays you like, tempo, have everyone know the situation, and just don’t speed up too much—it’s two-minute, but you still gotta take your regular drop and stuff like that,” Arch said of his uncle’s advice.

Peyton knows plenty about finding success in college, having played 45 games over four seasons with the Vols from 1994 to 1997. He racked up 11,201 passing yards and 89 touchdowns during his time in Knoxville. His nephew, Arch, is entering his first season as a starter and will be under plenty of pressure.

Not only is there pressure on the Texas QB to live up to the Manning name, but also to lead a very talented team in pursuit of a National Championship. If Texas does reach that level, a former Vol will have played a part—however small—through the guidance he’s given Arch along the way.
