There's some speculation that Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning could be on the move after the 2023 season.

Manning, the nephew of Tennessee Vols legend Peyton Manning and Ole Miss Rebels legend Eli Manning, is a former five-star recruit who signed with Texas during the 2023 recruiting cycle.

So far this season, Manning hasn't taken a single snap for Texas, which isn't unusual since he's a true freshman.

The talented quarterback, however, might have to wait another year before he gets his turn at Texas, meaning he could be a redshirt sophomore behind he finally gets a chance to lead the Longhorns' offense.

A report emerged this week saying that Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers will likely return to Austin next fall.

Archie Manning, Arch's grandfather, recently commented on the younger Manning's time at Texas this season.

"Every situation is different," said Archie to The Spun. "If you remember, Peyton and Eli went to school early for spring training. Peyton got thrown in for his first game as a freshman. He played a great deal that season. Tennessee had a great offensive line and two really good running backs, so that allowed him to work into it. Eli had what I think is the best course. He redshirt his first year, was a backup in his second year, and then started in his third year."

"I think it’s a big jump (to college)," continued Archie. "Arch played 2A Football, as did Peyton and Eli. Every situation is different. I think the most unfortunate thing was that Quinn Ewers got hurt. He was having a great year. I think Maalik [Murphy] has done some great things filling in. Arch is happy with the decision he made. All the reports we get is that he’s doing well. He’s going to get a redshirt out of this year, and I think that’s important."

Archie didn't necessarily say that Arch won't consider a transfer, though he strongly hinted that a transfer isn't in play.

The world of college football is much different now than it was when Peyton and Eli played. If Arch is as talented as his recruiting ranking suggests he is, then he could be off to the NFL after just three years. But if he has to wait until 2025 to get his chance to start, it could affect that timeline. The Manning family is notoriously tight lipped when it comes to decisions of any kind. So if Arch decides to transfer, it will likely be an announcement that comes out of nowhere.
