Arkansas Razorbacks head coach Sam Pittman pointed out an under-the-radar advantage that the Tennessee Vols will have on Saturday night when the two teams meet under the lights in Fayetteville.
While speaking on the SEC teleconference on Wednesday, Pittman noted that his team is banged up after playing five straight games to open the 2024 season.
Tennessee, on the other hand, had a chance to get healthy this past week thanks to a well-timed bye week after a hard-fought road win against the Oklahoma Sooners.
According to Pittman, the Razorbacks have altered their practice schedule a bit this week in an effort to get healthy since they know they'll be facing a well-rested Tennessee team.
"We took 10 minutes off of practice yesterday," said Pittman. "Our Wednesday practices are usually about an hour and 48 from start to finish, so we'll stay that way. We took the pads off, went to (spider pads) on Monday trying to get healthy. Also, trying to get our legs because this is six weeks in a row. Knowing that Tennessee comes off a bye week, as well, that they'll be ready to go. Obviously, just simply, they won't be as beat up because they didn't play last week. So we took all of those things into consideration. The first two days have gone really, really well."
Pittman said on Monday that he doesn't expect starting cornerback Jaylon Braxton to be available this week against the Vols.
Tight ends Luke Hasz, Ty Washington, and Andreas Paaske are also each banged up heading into this weekend's matchup.
Tennessee, meanwhile, should be pretty healthy against the Razorbacks. The Vols are hoping to get left tackle Lance Heard back (he missed UT's previous two games). Otherwise, everyone of note should be available for the Vols .
(The first SEC injury report of the week will be released on Wednesday evening.)
Heupel is 8-1 in his career (3-0 at Tennessee) coming off a bye. A healthy Vols squad could have their way in Fayetteville against a banged up Arkansas team.
