Auburn head coach Alex Golesh reportedly hires former Tennessee Vols offensive coordinator to his coaching staff

Auburn Tigers head coach Alex Golesh is reportedly hiring a former Tennessee Vols offensive coordinator to his coaching staff.
Golesh, who served as Tennessee’s offensive coordinator from 2021-2022, was hired in late November to replace Hugh Freeze at Auburn.
According to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, Golesh is hiring Howard head coach Larry Scott to serve as Auburn’s new tight ends coach.
Larry Scott was the offensive coordinator during Butch Jones’ final season at Tennessee
Scott, a former USF offensive lineman, spent two seasons on Rocky Top.
The Florida native was hired by then-Tennessee head coach Butch Jones in 2016 to replace Mark Elder as the Vols’ tight ends coach.
Scott was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2017 after Mike DeBord left Tennessee to join Tom Allen’s staff at Indiana.
The 2017 season proved to be disastrous for the Volunteers, with the offense averaging just 19.8 points per game (No. 119 in the nation). It certainly wasn’t a good situation for Scott, who was in his first season as an offensive coordinator at the collegiate level.
Scott spent the following two seasons as the tight ends coach at Florida before landing the head coaching gig at Howard.
Interestingly, Scott’s son, Larry Scott III, is set to serve as Auburn’s assistant defensive line coach in 2026.
Tennessee and Auburn will face off in Knoxville in 2026.
