The Buffalo Bills beat the Baltimore Ravens 41-40 on NBC’s Sunday Night Football in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season, and it may have been the game of the year.
Buffalo won the thriller in large part due to a huge play in the fourth quarter by former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Josh Palmer.
Palmer, who signed with the Bills during the offseason after spending the first four seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers, caught an important 32-yard pass from quarterback Josh Allen on Buffalo’s game-winning drive.
The former Vol caught the pass, which put the Bills in field goal range, with just 46 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.
Heck of a throw, and heck of a route.
The Bills kicked a 32-yard field goal as time expired to complete an impressive comeback win. Buffalo trailed the Ravens by 15 points with under eight minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
Josh Palmer comes up clutch in his debut with the Bills
The Bills received quite a bit of criticism during the offseason for not doing more to address the wide receiver position.
ESPN, in fact, called the signing of Palmer an “uninspiring choice.”
Palmer caught five passes for 61 yards in his debut with the Bills — including that huge 32-yard reception that put Buffalo in position to win the game.
The decision to sign Palmer may not have been inspiring on paper, but it proved to be a great move in real life.
Palmer is never going to be a superstar in the NFL. But he’s proved during his first few seasons in the league that he’s a reliable target that can come through in some big moments for an NFL franchise.
