Byron Young has historic performance at NFL Draft combine
Tennessee Vols EDGE rusher Byron Young put on a show at the 2023 NFL draft combine this week
Tennessee Vols defensive lineman Byron Young was one of the best-kept secrets in the 2023 NFL Draft, but that's no longer the case after his performance at the combine in Indianapolis on Thursday.
Young put on a show at the combine. While he may not be viewed as a potential top-10 selection, there's a decent chance he's played himself into the first round with his strong performance.
The former Vol ran a ridiculous 4.43 in the 40-yard dash on Thursday.
According to Tennessee SID Bill Martin, Young's 4.43 is the fourth fastest time by a defensive lineman at the NFL draft combine in the last 20 years.
Alabama edge rusher Will Anderson, a potential top-three selection in the draft, ran a 4.60 at the combine on Thursday. Young isn't going to be viewed as the better prospect anytime soon, but it's notable that he's significantly faster than Anderson.
Young also had solid measurables at the draft. His 32.5-inch arms aren't elite, but that's good enough for an NFL EDGE rusher.
Additionally, the former Vols standout showed his impressive athleticism via his 38-inch vertical leap.
Young made himself some money on Thursday. I don't know if his performance is enough to lift him to the first round, but he definitely shook up some mock drafts with his testing times and his measurables.
