It was another tough weekend for the Tennessee Vols baseball program.
Tennessee dropped the rubber game of a three-game series against the Vanderbilt Commodores, giving the Vols their fourth straight SEC series loss.
The Volunteers are now 39-13 on the season. They dropped to No. 17 in the latest Top 25 rankings from D1 Baseball.
After Tennessee's loss to Vanderbilt on Sunday, D1 Baseball's Kendall Rogers noted that the Vols could be in serious jeopardy of dropping out of the top 16 (post-season seeding) if they lose the series to Arkansas this upcoming weekend (the final series of the regular season).
If Tennessee falls out of the top 16, it means they won't host a regional.
The last thing the Vols want is to go on the road in regional play. It just makes the path to Omaha that much more difficult.
Winning a series on the road against Arkansas, however, won't be easy. The Razorbacks are 41-11 and ranked No. 8 in the nation. Tennessee will have to conquer some of their shortcomings (such as controlling the running game and hitting with runners in scoring position) to earn an important series win in Fayetteville.
