College football analyst Joel Klatt threw some shade at Tennessee Vols fans for the way they acted after UT's 24-17 win against the Alabama Crimson Tide this past weekend.
Klatt didn't love that fans stormed the field and tore the goal posts down at Neyland for the second time in three years.
He also weirdly took issue with the way some fans were lighting their cigars.
"By the way, like, I don't know if it was time for the goal posts (to come down)," said Klatt. "That ain't Nick Saban over there, you know what I mean? And by the way, someone needs to teach the kids at Tennessee — kids, you shouldn't smoke cigars. But if you're going to, you don't light them with matches. There was so much wrong with that. Tennessee, come on. Vandy is kicking your butt in celebration. Sorry, sorry, but it's true. You don't know how to light your 'victory cigars', you probably shouldn't storm the field because Saban ain't over there in the first place. And your offense is probably still not good enough."
Look, I didn't think Vols fans should've stormed the field either — mostly because like Klatt said, it's not Saban's Alabama anymore. And plus, it's a "been there done that" kind of thing for Tennessee.
But at the same time, I get it. The Vols haven't had many wins against Alabama in the last 20 years. And the win against the Crimson Tide this past weekend shows that the win in 2022 wasn't a one-off fluke. So sure, fans deserve to celebrate however they want.
As for the comments about the cigars?
I mean, come on, Joel. There were over 100,000 people at that game and I'm guessing the overwhelming majority aren't smoking cigars on the regular. I think we can forgive folks for not knowing how to light a cigar in a moment of jubilation.
