CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd has never been shy about taking shots at the Tennessee Vols.

In 2021, after then UT head coach Jeremy Pruitt was fired due to a recruiting scandal, Dodd said that Tennessee is a program that "thinks better of itself than it is".

Two years later, Dodd suggested, with no evidence, that there were "whispers" that quarterback Nico Iamaleava was "overpaid" (due to his alleged $8 million NIL deal).

Iamaleava had yet to take a snap for the Vols when Dodd made the "overpaid" remark.

Entering the 2024 season, Dodd has a more optimistic take when it comes to Tennessee football than he's had in the past.

Dodd wrote that he "can't wait to see Nico Iamaleava lead this (Tennessee) offense". He also wrote that with Nico under center, the Vols' offense should "return to 2022 levels" (when UT led the nation in scoring).

From CBS Sports: We can't wait to see Nico Iamaleava lead this offense. This offseason, the Tennessee quarterback emerged as the central figure in an NCAA investigation, and the resulting anti-trust lawsuit led to NCAA upheaval. On the field, look for Josh Heupel's offense to return to 2022 levels with Iamaleava throwing to Squirrel White, Bru McCoy and Tulane transfer Chris Brazzell II.

You know the program is moving in the right direction when known Tennessee critics are getting excited about Vols football in 2024.
