Tennessee Vols outfielder Hunter Ensley, one of the heroes of UT's championship run in Omaha last month, announced on Tuesday that he's returning to Knoxville in 2025 for his final year of eligibility.

Ensley is draft eligible, but he wasn't expected to be an early round selection in this month's 2024 MLB Draft.

Ensley spoke to the Knoxville News Sentinel about his decision to return to Tennessee for another season and he said he felt like returning for a fifth year was a better opportunity than turning pro.

“In my eyes, coming back for my fifth year was the better opportunity and the one I wanted to do more than go play pro ball,” said Ensley.

Ensley also pointed out that Tennessee will have a big target on their back in 2025 because of their recent national championship win.

And he thinks that having that target on their back will make the 2025 season special.

“It is what you want to do in college,” said Ensley. “You want to win one and you want to have that year after where everyone is out to get you…We have that target on our back. That is what we love and we embrace it. That is when the competition is at its best.”

Ensley and the Vols clearly aren't backing down from the challenge. And they aren't resting on their laurels after bringing a natty back to Rocky Top. They're obviously eager to win another one. And the fact that everyone will be out to beat Tennessee is only going to serve as motivation for the Volunteers in 2025.
