Dallas Cowboys star edge rusher Micah Parsons sent shockwaves through the NFL on Friday when he officially requested a trade.
“Unfortunately I no longer want to be here,” wrote Parsons in a lengthy social media post. “I no longer want to be held to close door negotiations without my agent present. I no longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization our fans and my teammates. I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me.”
Parsons has one year left on his contract before he’s set to become a free agent. According to ESPN, Parsons will earn $21.324 million in 2025 on the fifth-year option of his rookie deal as a defensive end (instead of $24.007 million as a linebacker).
After pressing send on his trade request, Parsons quickly went viral for a tweet he sent earlier this spring.
Back in April, quarterback Nico Iamaleava left the Tennessee Vols football program after a report from On3 emerged that stated he was in active NIL negotiations.
After that report surfaced, the situation quickly devolved and Iamaleava ended up transferring to UCLA.
Parsons chimed in on Iamaleava’s situation via Twitter/X.com.
“College football a joke now,” wrote Parsons. “Y’all [might as] well just make college into a semi-pro league! Actually hold players accountable to the contracts they sign!”
Old Takes Exposed had some fun with that tweet on Friday afternoon.

There’s certainly some irony there. Parsons may want an extension, but he’s also under contract for the 2025 season. I don’t blame him for wanting an extension — who wouldn’t want to maximize their earnings when their value is high?
But based on his own advice, Parsons should be held accountable to the contract he signed.
Maybe Parsons is reconsidering his stance on Nico now….
