Tennessee Vols linebacker Darrell Taylor is heading to the NFL, but he won't soon forget the impact that UT head coach Jeremy Pruitt had on him.

Taylor played two seasons under Pruitt. It's not a coincidence that those two seasons were the best of his collegiate career.

After totaling just 3.0 sacks in 14 games in 2016 and 2017, Taylor exploded in 2018 and 2019 for 16.5 total sacks.

Taylor attributes his success to Pruitt's football knowledge and coaching methods.

The Virginia native recently told the Knoxville News Sentinel "He's the smartest coach I've ever met in my life, and his knowledge of the game is beyond anything I've ever seen."

Taylor added "Before him I probably didn't know that much football, but when I met him, I learned a lot of football".

It's obvious that Pruitt had a massive impact on Taylor's career. The numbers don't lie. Taylor went from averaging one sack every 4.5 games before Pruitt, to averaging one sack every 1.5 games under Pruitt.

If Pruitt had that type of impact on Taylor, imagine what he can do with a roster full of players that he recruited.

By the way, Pruitt wasn't the only coach that Taylor praised this week. He also pointed out that outside linebackers coach Chris Rumph helped him become a better pass rusher over the last two years.

Development of players was a major weakness under previous UT head coach Butch Jones.

But with Pruitt at the helm, developing players will be a strength.
