Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, may have given Tennessee Vols fans a reason to be concerned this week.
Coach Prime is off to a blazing 2-0 start at Colorado after earning season-opening wins against TCU and Nebraska. And unsurprisingly, recruits are noticing.
One of the recruits that's paying attention to Colorado is 2024 four-star Vols commit Boo Carter, a Tennessee native who could play on either side of the ball in college.
According to On3, Carter is set to take a visit to Colorado this weekend.
Carter, 5-foot-10/184 lbs from Chattanooga, TN, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 17 athlete in the nation and the No. 4 player in the state of Tennessee.
Should Tennessee fans be worried about Carter flipping to Colorado?
Recruiting is fluid and anyone who tells you they know exactly what's going to happen with Carter is simply not being honest with themselves. Carter could decide at any moment that he prefers Colorado over Tennessee. Or he could never give a serious thought to decommitting from the Vols. No one but Carter knows how that internal battle will play out.
As far as what Colorado has to offer, there is one aspect of this that should be concerning to Tennessee fans.
Carter is a two-way player and Sanders showed early this season that he's willing to play Travis Hunter on both sides of the ball (and Hunter has received even more national attention as a result).
It's certainly possible that Sanders and his staff could use Hunter's usage this season as a recruiting pitch for Carter.
Of course, playing on both sides of the ball isn't sustainable for any football player. At some point, playing that many snaps will take its toll on anyone. And I'm not sure playing that many snaps in college before going to the NFL is wise. NFL front offices prefer their draft options to have lower mileage.
It's too early to know what's going to happen with Carter and Colorado, but it's definitely a situation worth monitoring for Tennessee fans.
