Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Josh Dobbs was in Nashville on Thursday and he stopped by 104.5 The Zone to join The Buck Reising Show.

The biggest topic of conversation was obviously Tennessee's matchup this weekend with the Georgia Bulldogs.

Dobbs, however, didn't just talk about the Tennessee/Georgia game. He also talked about Josh Heupel's offense and why it's working so well for the Vols this season.

"They got guys on 70-yard touchdowns that are just running butt naked down the field," said Dobbs. "I'm like Coach Heupel, what are you doing?"

"I went back this offseason and I was watching their game last year against Kentucky, they ran an interesting set. Into the boundary, they put like four receivers over there. They ran four verts (vertical routes), but switched all the releases and got a guy wide open down the sideline."

"I was just picking his brain, like 'hey what was that concept and how do you even put four of your receivers into the boundary where there's less space'. He's like 'you know, every week I just see the matchups that you get on defense and how you want to attack them'. And you see it each week, they get the matchup, they're able to take advantage of it and someone's just shooting down the field wide open. Usually Jalin Hyatt."

Heupel is essentially reverse-engineering the offense each week. And that's a big reason why it's so hard to stop.

Tennessee looks slightly different each week depending on what the defense gives them.

Heupel is basically customizing his offense to each opponent. That's why watching tape on the Vols isn't as useful as it is when preparing for other teams.

Just another reason why Heupel is an offensive mastermind. Even Josh Dobbs, one of the best quarterbacks in Tennessee history, can't figure out Heupel's offense.
