Former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt had to wait a little longer than expected to hear his name called in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Hyatt was expected to be a late first-round or early second-round selection.

Instead, he fell to the third round where he was scooped up by the New York Giants with the No. 73 overall pick.

Before the draft, I felt like the Kansas City Chiefs would be the best landing spot for Hyatt. The Chiefs' offense under Andy Reid is known for being innovative. And if you watched Kansas City in the playoffs, you might have noticed some similarities between a few of the Chiefs' offensive plays and some of the plays we saw from the Volunteers this past season (such as switch releases with wide receivers).

Hyatt didn't land in Kansas City, but he ended up with a Giants team that has some offensive similarities to the Chiefs.

That's something that ESPN draft analyst Matt Miller pointed out recently

Miller, who listed the Hyatt selection as one of his favorite picks in this year's draft, pointed out the similarities between the Giants' offense and the Chiefs' offense as one of the reasons he's high on Hyatt in New York.

"The Giants' offensive system is a mixture of Buffalo and Kansas City, and both Daboll and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka have had success with smaller, speedy receivers," wrote Miller. "Hyatt can become the Giants' go-to target early in his career with his vertical stretch ability and the tools to become a much better route runner once exposed to more concepts and coaching. And New York got great value here."

Success in the NFL is largely dependent on players being put in positions to be successful. Fortunately for Hyatt, it doesn't sound like that will be an issue with the Giants.
