One of the Tennessee Vols' top remaining recruiting targets, four-star wide receiver Travis Smith Jr, recently announced his top four schools and UT made the cut.
Smith, 6-foot-4/191 lbs from Atlanta, GA, told Rivals.com this week that his final four schools are Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and Auburn.
The four-star recruit, who is rated as the No. 13 wide receiver in the nation (247Sports composite rankings), plans to announce his commitment on July 13.
It's going to be tough to beat Georgia in this recruiting battle, but one thing working in the Vols' favor is the way the Tennessee coaching staff has handled Smith's recruitment.
Smith told Rivals.com that Tennessee's consistent approach with their communication is something he appreciates.
"They (Tennessee) have been so, so, so consistent with communication, keeping me aligned within the program and what's happening there, keeping me in the loop on everything," said Smith to Rivals.com. "They have been really high on the list, emphasizing how important I'd be for their program and it's been impressive. I've been up there a few times and was able to build a good relationship with the staff. Coach (Josh) Heupel and Coach (Kelsey) Pope have touched based with my family, and that's been a big part of my recruitment. How much I'd fit in with that offense would be a big plus."
Tennessee is scheduled to receive an official visit from Smith on June 21, which comes after his official visits to Georgia (June 1), Auburn (June 7), and Alabama (June 14).
While beating out Georgia for Smith will be tough, the fact that Tennessee gets the final official visit before his commitment announcement seems to bode well for the Vols' chances of landing the elite wide receiver.
