2024 five-star linebacker Sammy Brown revealed his top six schools this week (via On3) and he included the Tennessee Vols, along with Clemson, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Oklahoma

Brown, 6-foot-2.5/225 lbs from Jefferson, GA, is ranked in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 1 linebacker in the nation and the No. 4 player in the state of Georgia. He's also ranked as the No. 12 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class.

Essentially, whoever lands Brown will likely be getting a future NFL linebacker who could be a gamechanger as a college player.

Brown spoke to On3 about his recruitment after revealing his top six schools and he had some extremely positive things to say about Tennessee.

The Georgia native said he feels like the Vols could soon be playing for a national championship.

“I would just say it’s just how (head) coach (Josh) Heupel‘s done up there," said Brown to On3. "The things that he’s done are very impressive, especially to do in just two years of time. I think that he’s gonna continue to build that program and they’re gonna be dangerous in the next couple years. I think that they have a shot to win the SEC and possibly play for a national championship (with) the way they’re going.”

A couple of years ago, a statement like this from a recruit would've been laughed at by rival fanbases. But after watching the Vols go 11-2 in Heupel's second season — Tennessee would've been in the playoff if not for an unexplainable late-season loss to South Carolina — Brown's statement doesn't come off as farfetched. In fact, I'd almost say it's likely that UT plays in a natty in the next couple of years (who would've thought two years ago that I'd be typing that).

Landing Brown would certainly help Tennessee make that championship prediction come true. It would also be a massive recruiting win over the Georgia Bulldogs.
