A 2027 five-star recruit that’s committed to an SEC powerhouse has reportedly scheduled an official visit with the Tennessee Vols

According to Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman, 2027 five-star wide receiver Easton Royal will take an official visit to Tennessee on June 4.

“Tennessee has made not only me, but my family feel like a priority, too,” said Royal to Rivals.

Royal, 5-11, 185 pounds from New Orleans, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 3 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 12 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class. He’s also rated as the top player in the state of Louisiana.

The five-star wide receiver has been committed to the Texas Longhorns since Nov. 29.

Tennessee has “refused to stop” in their pursuit of Easton Royal

Royal told Rivals that his commitment to Texas is “stronger than ever”, but he clearly hasn’t shut down his recruitment yet.

That’s in part because of how aggressive Tennessee has been in their pursuit of the Louisiana native.

“Tennessee has refused to stop recruiting Royal,” noted Spiegelman last month.

On3’s Chad Simmons suggested in January that Tennessee may actually be the biggest threat to swipe the five-star wide receiver from Texas.

“The Buckeyes could be one to watch. Florida was one of his early favorites less than a year ago, but Tennessee may be Texas’ top competition,” wrote Simmons. “The offense and (Tennessee wide receivers coach) Kelsey Pope have the Vols in play.”

It won’t be easy to flip Royal from a top SEC program like Texas.

The Vols, however, have been on a heater when it comes to landing elite wide receivers over the last few recruiting cycles — Tristen Keys, Travis Smith, Radarious Jackson, Tyreek King, Mike Matthews, and Braylon Staley, to name a few — so I don’t think we can rule out Tennessee in this recruiting battle (Kelsey Pope doesn’t get enough credit for being an elite recruiter for the Vols).

Royal’s official visit will be key for the Volunteers. We’ll have a better idea of where Tennessee stands in this battle in June after Royal takes his official visit to Knoxville.
