Elite 5-star recruit visits Tennessee and immediately notices something impressive about the Vols’ culture
The Tennessee Vols are hoping to land an elite five-star recruit from Las Vegas.
The Tennessee Vols hosted an elite five-star recruit on a visit earlier this week.
2027 five-star cornerback Hayden Stepp took a visit to Tennessee this week as he gets closer to making a decision.
Stepp, 6-foot-3/185 pounds from Las Vegas, NV, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 5 cornerback in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of Nevada. He’s also rated as the No. 33 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class.
Hayden Stepp loved what he saw from the Tennessee Vols’ culture
Stepp spoke to On3 about his visit to Tennessee and he specifically pointed out that he loved the culture that he saw in the building.
“He’s (Vols head coach Josh Heupel) very straightforward and down to earth, which I really respect,” said Stepp. “I had the chance to talk with him quite a bit, ask questions, and just get a better feel for his approach. He was honest and made it clear he sees me as a good fit for Tennessee, which meant a lot. You can also tell he’s built a real family atmosphere, players were hanging out together in the facilities even after practice, which says a lot about the culture.”
Culture, fit, and competing for early playing time are important to Stepp. Those are all things that Tennessee will be able to offer the dynamic defensive back.
Oregon and Alabama, though, are big factors in this recruiting battle, so Tennessee has work to do if they’re going to convince the five-star recruit to play on Rocky Top.
Stepp doesn’t currently have a planned commitment date.
