The Tennessee Vols lost to the Purdue Boilermakers in the Music City Bowl on Thursday evening in Nashville due in part to a terrible forward progress call in overtime.

UT running back Jaylen Wright appeared to score a touchdown on a massive fourth-down play.

The referees, however, ruled that Wright's forward progress was stopped.

Wright never stopped churning forward, his knee never touched the ground, and the ball crossed the goal line.

But it wasn't a touchdown.

The play was reviewed and the call on the field of forward progress being stopped was upheld.

ESPN/SEC Network studio host Peter Burns took to Twitter to call the non-touchdown one of the worst calls he's ever seen in college football.

Tennessee didn't play its best game against Purdue. They certainly had their fair share of self-inflicted errors. But this non-call absolutely changed the outcome of the game.

The game between UT and Purdue featured some thrilling back and forth action — especially in the fourth quarter.

It's a shame that this game will be remembered for the inept officials that ruined the outcome.
