Things haven’t gone exactly great for former Tennessee Vols RB in his two years with the Miami Dolphins. As a rookie, he had a limited role in the Dolphins’ offense behind starter De’Von Achane.

Now, in the early stages of his second season in Miami, his opportunity to make an impact in the offense has grown even more faint. After missing the first three games with an injury he sustained in the preseason, he’s seen 2025 rookie draft pick Ollie Gordon II taken on a complimentary role in the Dolphins’ offense, and the physical rookie has been impressive thus far.

As such, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler suggests Wright is ripe for a trade, and he sees the Kansas City Chiefs as a logical destination for the former Vol.

ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler suggests a trade between Miami and Kansas City for RB Jaylen Wright

Fowler had the following to say about the Chiefs seeking out Wright from the Dolphins:

“The Chiefs also need a lift on offense. Luckily for them, receivers Xavier Worthy (shoulder) and Rashee Rice (suspension) will return to the lineup before the deadline. Those two, Hollywood Brown and the resurgent Tyquan Thornton might be enough. But the running game still needs help. Miami isn’t playing running back Jaylen Wright, who had a lot of fans in the 2024 draft. It might be worth a call for Kansas City.” – Via Jeremy Fowler, ESPN.com

There’s little doubt that Wright has the upside to make an impact. Aside from one of the greatest players in the game in Patrick Mahomes running the offense, the Chiefs have a substantially better offensive line than the Dolphins, and a fellow ex-Tennessee standout happens to be a key part of it in guard Trey Smith. Kansas City could also use a boost at the running back position, with starter Isaiah Pacheco having a 3.7 yards per carry average in 2024 and 2025. And hey, coming on board in the midst of the Chiefs’ dynasty with Mahomes is one of the best situations any player could ask for.

Sometimes a change of scenery is necessary for a player to fulfill his potential, and with the relative train wreck that the Dolphins have become and Wright’s place on the roster, a move to a franchise like the Chiefs could be just what the doctor ordered.
