The Florida Gators will be hoping to recapture some mid-2000s magic when they host the Tennessee Vols in Gainesville this November.
According to a press release from the National Football Foundation, Florida will honor former Gators head coach Urban Meyer — via the NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute — during the game against Tennessee.
“The NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute tradition allows us the opportunity to celebrate each inductee back where their journey began—among the fans and communities that helped shape their legendary careers,” said NFF President & CEO Steve Hatchell in a statement. “We look forward to celebrating the amazing careers of the 2025 NFF Hall of Fame Class with the tens of thousands of fans who will witness an on-campus salute this year, creating a truly memorable experience for each inductee.”
Meyer was the head coach at Florida from 2005 to 2010 and went 6-0 against Tennessee during that time.
The closest the Vols came to beating Meyer was in 2006 when the Gators squeaked out a 21-20 win in Knoxville.
Winning in the Swamp is difficult enough as it is. While having Meyer and his black magic in the house shouldn’t have any impact on the outcome, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium has been a house of horrors for the Vols over the last couple of decades (Tennessee hasn’t won in Gainesville since the last time the Vols played there before the start of the Meyer era). It seems like the Vols are truly cursed every time they cross into the Gainesville city limits.
Then again, maybe Tennessee will be able to exorcise some demons with Meyer in the building.
