‘It looks like he’s that guy for Tennessee’ – ESPN’s Cole Cubelic likes what he’s seeing from Vols playmaker in 2025
ESPN’s Cole Cubelic is impressed with what he’s seen from Tennessee Vols wide receiver Chris Brazzell this season. ESPN’s Cole Cubelic is impressed with what he’s seen from Tennessee Vols wide receiver Chris Brazzell this season.
Cubelic, though, isn’t shocked to see Brazzell performing at a high level.
“Another thing we kind of haven’t referenced with Tennessee that Mississippi State has to have an answer for is what Chris Brazzell is turning into,” said Cubelic on McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning on Thursday. “And I honestly don’t like to say turning into, because he wasn’t this for them last year, but he was this two years ago in a different uniform. When you watch his Tulane stuff, he was that guy. And now it looks like he’s that guy for Tennessee. And you can put all that emphasis on the run game that you want, [but] you let him get loose, you’re gonna have real problems.”
Tennessee landed Brazzell as a transfer addition from Tulane ahead of the 2024 season. The Texas native struggled in his first season with the Vols, catching just 29 passes for 333 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games.
Tennessee WR Chris Brazzell has already surpassed his production from last season
Brazzell is off to a fast start this season. The redshirt junior has caught 25 passes for 426 yards and six touchdowns through the first four games of the season.
The impressive thing about Brazzell this season is that he’s not just padding his stats against cupcake opponents. His best game of the season (so far), came in the Vols’ overtime loss to the Georgia Bulldogs (six receptions for 177 yards and three touchdowns).
If Brazzell keeps up this level of production, he could become Tennessee’s second Biletnikoff Award winner in the last four seasons (former Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt won the award in 2022).
Brazzell will look to keep it going this weekend when the Vols travel to Starkville for a showdown with the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
