‘I don’t know that Tennessee is going to pay that kind of cash’ – Insider shares latest insight on Sam Leavitt and the Vols
The Tennessee Vols are still in the mix for Arizona State transfer quarterback Sam Leavitt.
The Tennessee Vols are still in the mix for Arizona State transfer quarterback Sam Leavitt, but they’re facing some stiff competition.
The LSU Tigers and the Miami Hurricanes are also in the mix for Leavitt, and both programs may be a little more willing to go all-in on the transfer quarterback.
Leavitt, who is coming off a foot injury that’s expected to keep him sidelined during spring practice, is the highest-profile transfer quarterback that’s still available.
College football insider shares latest thoughts on Sam Leavitt and the Vols
On3 college football insider Chris Low shared some thoughts on Leavitt and the Vols on The RTI Low-Down on Sunday.
“I don’t think they’re going to get Leavitt,” said Low of the Vols. “Who knows. The money, much like (Brendan) Sorsby — Sorsby got $5 million plus at Texas Tech. And I know that he and his family had conversations with Tennessee. At this point. I don’t know that Tennessee is going to pay that kind of cash. And Leavitt’s going to get a lot of money. Certainly, Miami is willing to pay a lot. LSU is willing to pay a lot. He’s got a lot of options out there. We’ll see.
“That’s the missing piece for Tennessee,” added Low of the quarterback position. “They need to get somebody that they feel can come in, run that offense, and be productive. I think it’s a must. They’ve got two young guys (George MacIntyre and Faizon Brandon) they like. I think both of them are going to be guys that will compete and both have a chance to be really good players at this next level. I don’t think either one will be ready to play next year, though.”
Low, by the way, noted that he thinks LSU “upped its offer” to Leavitt during Lane Kiffin’s brief visit with the transfer quarterback at the airport in Knoxville last Friday.
Leavitt hasn’t done interviews during the transfer process, so it’s unclear exactly what he’s looking for in his next stop.
It’s possible that he won’t go to the highest bidder. But I wouldn’t expect him to offer any program much of a discount. After all, he has all the leverage right now.
