It's not often that a former Alabama player is loved by Tennessee Vols fans but Greg McElroy might have put himself in that conversation last week thanks to his comments about UT quarterback Hendon Hooker.

McElroy, who played quarterback at Alabama from 2007 to 2010, took time during ESPN's broadcast of the Orange Bowl to criticize the fact that Hooker wasn't a Heisman Trophy finalist.

"The fact that he wasn't in New York (for the Heisman) is an absolute joke," said McElroy during Tennessee's win against Clemson. "You're going to tell me this guy isn't one of the top four players in America? I think you're crazy. It's as simple as that. I think he's that good."

"And the way he delivered in big moments I think is just terrific," continued McElroy. "I mean, taking this offense to a whole new level, being smart with the football, being able to push the ball down the field."

"I got the chance to spend some time with him at SEC Media Days this past summer. He's just an infectious personality. You just are drawn to the kid. And he's so highly cerebral. This is an offense that puts a lot on the quarterback's shoulder and he's just really a joy to watch and cover."

McElroy is right — it's a complete joke that Hooker wasn't in New York for the Heisman presentation. Hooker was robbed of a deserving moment. And it's all because some of the Heisman voters apparently don't watch college football on Saturdays.
