Former LSU Tigers wide receiver Kayshon Boutte was charged this week in an illegal sports betting scheme.
Boutte was a sixth round pick by the New England Patriots in the 2023 NFL Draft. He allegedly placed over 8,900 bets while he was at LSU and under the age of 21.
From WAFB: Former LSU football player Kayshon Boutte was arrested on charges related to illegal online gaming Thursday, following a lengthy investigation by Louisiana State Police. Boutte is accused of creating an online betting account under a fictitious name and then placing illegal bets while he was still under the age of 21 and not legally allowed to gamble. His efforts led to more than $500,000 in winnings, with the vast majority of that money being used to place additional bets, investigators allege. Boutte, who is now 21, is currently listed on the roster of the New England Patriots. He played in five games for the Patriots last season. He is accused of placing nearly 9,000 illegal wagers including two bets on at least one LSU football game that he played in, his arrest warrant states.
One of the bets that Boutte placed was on himself as part of an eight leg parlay. The former LSU wide receiver bet that he would score a touchdown and go over 82.5 yards in a game against Florida State in 2022.
Boutte finished that game with two receptions for 20 yards and zero touchdowns.
If you're wondering how Boutte got caught, it's in part because he was incredibly careless and signed up with a username that featured his real name.
Boutte is a former five-star wide receiver. He was the No. 20 overall player in the 2020 recruiting class.
