A former Tennessee Vols baseball standout that hasn’t made his MLB debut yet is reportedly set to play in the World Baseball Classic.

According to multiple reports, former Vols infielder Andrew Fischer will play for Team Italy in the upcoming WBC.

Fischer, a first round pick by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2025 MLB Draft, will join former Florida Gators star Jac Caglianone on Team Italy (Caglianone made his MLB debut with the Kansas City Royals last season).

Andrew Fischer had one of the coldest moments in Tennessee baseball history

Tennessee baseball’s had plenty of memorable moments over the last five years. From Drew Gilbert’s walk-off grand slam against Wright State in 2021 to Christian Moore hitting for the cycle in the 2024 College World Series, there’s no been shortage of electric moments for the Vols in recent seasons.

Fischer’s big moment for the Vols came during the Knoxville Regional in 2025 when he delivered an epic home run during an extremely chippy game against Wake Forest.

Pure electricity. Easily one of the coolest moments I’ve seen during a college baseball game.

The WBC provides a similar feel, so we should see Fischer at his best with Team Italy.
