Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Hendon Hooker has a new home in the NFL.

Hooker, a third-round selection by the Detroit Lions in the 2023 NFL Draft, was released by Detroit ahead of the 2025 season.

The North Carolina native was signed to the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad two days after being released by the Lions. Hooker was then released by Carolina in early November (he didn’t appear in a game for the Panthers).

On Thursday, the New York Jets reportedly signed Hooker to their practice squad.

Hooker has completed six passes for 62 yards in his NFL career.

Hooker will join one of his former Tennessee teammates in the Big Apple.

Tyler Baron, who played at Tennessee from 2020 to 2023 before finishing his college career at Miami in 2024, was selected by the Jets in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Hooker and Baron were reportedly close friends at Tennessee.

Baron has totaled nine tackles in six games for the Jets this season.
