Former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Javonta Payton appeared to throw some shade at former UT running back Eric Gray this weekend.
Gray, who played two seasons for the Vols before transferring to Oklahoma, announced his intentions to declare for the 2023 NFL Draft over the weekend.
In Gray's tweet announcing his decision, he referred to himself as a "Sooner and Vol for life".
Payton appeared to take issue with Gray's usage of Vol for Life.
I guess it's hard to call yourself a "Vol for Life" after transferring to another program. "Vol for two years" might have been more appropriate.
Payton's tweet comes just a week after current Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel referenced the 30-plus players that left the program after the 2020 season (before Heupel's first season as the Vols' head coach).
Sounds like there might be a little tension between Tennessee and the players who left after 2020.
