Former Tennessee Vols baseball infielder Andrew Fischer is no stranger to coming through in big moments.

Fischer, for example, memorably hit a two-run home run against Wake Forest last year in the final game of the Knoxville Regional to help seal the win for the Volunteers.

Fischer, a first round pick by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2025 MLB draft, is playing for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic.

On Saturday, in Italy’s quarterfinals matchup against Puerto Rico, Fischer came to bat with two outs and the bases loaded. After falling behind in the count 1-2, Fischer drilled a 93 MPH fastball that caught a little too much plate to right field for what appeared to be a home run.

The play, however, was reviewed, and it was quickly determined that a fan reached over the wall to catch the ball in the field of play. Fischer was awarded a double and two runs scored, pushing Italy’s lead to 6-2.

Italy would go on to win 8-6 to advance to the semi-finals of the WBC.

It probably won’t be long before Fischer is playing in the big leagues with the Brewers.
