Former Tennessee Vols defender pulls switcheroo on another SEC football program
A former Tennessee Vols defender and assistant coach is quickly on the move again.
Earlier this offseason, the Tennessee Vols lost defensive analyst Marion Hobby to the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Hobby, a former Volunteers defensive lineman who played at Tennessee in the late 1980s, was set to serve as the Razorbacks’ defensive line coach under new head coach Ryan Silverfield.
The former Vol’s time in Fayetteville, however, didn’t last long.
Marion Hobby is heading back to the NFL
According to a report from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, Hobby is leaving Arkansas for the Indianapolis Colts.
Zenitz reported that Hobby will serve as the Colts’ new defensive line coach.
Before his short stint as analyst at Tennessee, Hobby spent eight seasons in the NFL as an assistant coach, spending time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, and Cincinnati Bengals.
It’s certainly not a surprise that Hobby is heading back to the NFL.
Oddly enough, he’s the second SEC assistant coach to make the move from the SEC to the NFL in recent days.
Tennessee lost its new cornerbacks coach, Michael Hunter, to the Los Angeles Rams earlier this week.
It’s hard to blame either coach for exiting the college game — NIL and the transfer portal have completely changed the job description for coaches at the collegiate level.
