One of the biggest hits in the NFL this week was delivered by a former Tennessee Vols defensive back.
Former Vols safety Jaylen McCollough, who is in his second season with the Los Angeles Rams, delivered a brutal hit to Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts on Sunday.
McCollough was unblocked while blitzing, and Hurts never saw him coming.
“Jaylen McCollough absolutely levels Jalen Hurts,” said Fox Sports play-by-play announcer Joe Davis as the former Vol delivered the hit.
Unfortunately for McCollough and the Rams, Hurts and the Eagles had the last laugh when Philly defensive lineman Jordan Davis blocked a potential winning field goal and returned it for a touchdown. The Eagles won the game 33-26, thanks to the walk-off field goal block.
Jaylen McCollough has been a great story for the Los Angeles Rams
McCollough, who played at Tennessee from 2019 to 2023, was signed by the Rams as an undrafted free agent after the 2024 NFL Draft.
The Georgia native not only made the Rams’ 53-man roster last season, but he also played an important role in Los Angeles’ defense.
McCollough played in all 17 games for the Rams in 2024, totaling 43 tackles and four interceptions.
Through three games this season, McCollough has 10 tackles and two sacks.
Not bad for a guy that every other team in the league passed on.

All of the Vols’ goals, however, are still very much attainable (winning the SEC, reaching the College Football […]
