Former Tennessee Vols guard Dalton Knecht, who is a rookie with the Los Angeles Lakers this season, participated in the NBA All-Star game on Sunday night.
Thanks to the All-Star's wacky new format, Knecht's Rising Stars team (by virtue of their wins on Saturday night) took on the OGs All-Star team in the semi-finals of the All-Star game.
The Rising Stars lost the game 42-35.
Four-time NBA All-Star Draymond Green made it clear on Sunday that he didn't care for the idea of the Rising Stars team playing in the All-Star game.
"Dalton Knecht doesn’t even have a team right now and he’s playing in the All-Star game," said Green in a reference to the failed trade between the Lakers and the Charlotte Hornets from earlier this month that involved Knecht.
Green also suggested that Knecht couldn't even "get traded right".
(The failed trade between the Lakers and the Hornets was rescinded because of a health issue with Mark Williams, the player that was going from the Hornets to the Lakers. It had nothing to do with Knecht.)
Knecht was asked about Green's comments on Sunday night after the All-Star game.
"Draymond said that? It's Draymond, he's just talking," said Knecht when informed of Green's comments.
"He's just talking," added Knecht when further questioned about Green's comments.
Green was obviously out line with his comments. I understand not liking the format, but it's completely out of Knecht's control. He's just taking advantage of the opportunities that are in front of him.
Knecht's response, however, was perfect. The rookie didn't get into a war of words with Green. Instead, he just offered a quick (and harmless) response while moving on from the topic.
