A former Tennessee Vols football player was named this week as one of the top NFL difference makers under the age of 40.
Former Vols offensive lineman Jacques McClendon, who is currently an agent for WME, was named by The Athletic as one of the Top 50 difference makers in the NFL under the age of 40.
McClendon represents Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales and Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen, among others.
From The Athletic: McClendon joined WME's newly formed coaches division in 2023 after serving as the Rams' director of football affairs. A former NFL player who earned his master's degree from Brown during L.A.'s Super Bowl run in 2021, McClendon's unique combination of competitiveness and amiability has quickly broken through the space. He represents Carolina Panthers coach Dave Canales and Jacksonville Jaguars coach Liam Coen, among other coordinators and high-ranking executives across the NFL.
"Jacques cares about our clients and works tirelessly to serve them on the field and off," said WME co-head of coaches Clint Dowdle.
"His dynamic and infectious personality has helped him build genuine and lasting relationships throughout the
McClendon, a fourth round selection by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2010 NFL Draft, spent six years in the NFL as a player, mostly bouncing between various practice squads, before joining the Los Angeles Rams' front office in 2017 as the franchise's Director of Football Affairs.
The former Vol, who turned 37 this past December, has quickly transitioned from a journeyman NFL player to a major behind-the-scenes figure in the sport. There are only 32 head coaches in the NFL and McClendon represents two of them. That's a big deal for a guy that was released five times over his final two years in the NFL.
And the exciting thing for McClendon is that his post-playing career is really just getting started. He's only been at WME since 2023 and he's already making a major impact. The sky is the limit for the Chattanooga-area native.
