A former Tennessee Vols quarterback is receiving a massive opportunity in the NFL in the wake of numerous firings that went down on Wednesday.

Early Wednesday morning, news broke that the Las Vegas Raiders fired head coach Josh McDaniels.

Later on Wednesday, it was reported that the Raiders also fired offensive coordinator Mick Lombardi.

Former Tennessee quarterback Bo Hardegree, who was previously serving as the Raiders' quarterbacks coach, has been promoted to offensive coordinator for Las Vegas with Lombardi on his way out.

Hardegree, a Jackson, TN native, played at Tennessee from 2004 to 2007. He joined former Vols offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe's staff at Duke in 2008 as a graduate assistant, a position he held for three seasons.

After spending three seasons with LSU as an intern, Hardegree landed his first NFL job in 2014 with the Denver Broncos as an offensive quality control coach (Vol legend Peyton Manning was the quarterback in Denver that season). Hardegree spent time with the Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, and New England Patriots (where he was on staff with former Vol Jerod Mayo) before landing with the Raiders as their quarterbacks coach in 2022.

The former Tennessee quarterback will get half a season to essentially "prove himself" as an offensive coordinator. Even if he isn't retained by whoever replaces McDaniels, the experience will be extremely valuable to Hardegree's coaching career moving forward.
