A former Tennessee Vols quarterback is set to receive his first career start.

According to On3’s Brett McMurphy, former Vols quarterback Gaston Moore will start for USF against Old Dominion in the Cure Bowl in Orlando.

Moore will start for USF due to starting quarterback Byrum Brown’s decision to opt out of the bowl game.

Gaston Moore transferred to USF following the 2025 season

Moore, who started his career at UCF in 2020 under Josh Heupel, spent four seasons at Tennessee before transferring to USF this past offseason.

The South Carolina native never started a game for the Vols, but he played an important role in Tennessee’s win against Mississippi State in 2024.

Moore played the entire second half in Tennessee’s 33-14 win over the Bulldogs after starting quarterback Nico Iamaleava left the game with a concussion.

The Vols didn’t ask Moore to do much against Mississippi State’s defense — he only attempted eight passes. But Tennessee put 13 points on the board with Moore under center, which was enough to preserve the win for the Vols.

USF and Old Dominion will play on December 17 at 5:00 PM ET.
