Shohei Ohtani's first spring training at bat with the Los Angeles Dodgers ended with a backward K thanks to a former Tennessee Vols pitcher.
Chicago White Sox LHP Garrett Crochet, a former Tennessee standout, struck Ohtani out in the first inning on Tuesday.
Ohtani took a called third strike, a fastball down the middle from Crochet, to end his first official at bat with the Dodgers.
Crochet is a former first round draft pick who played at Tennessee from 2018 to 2020.
The Mississippi native has appeared in 72 games as a reliever for the White Sox since his debut in 2020 (Crochet was the first player from the 2020 MLB draft to make his big league debut).
Crochet missed the entire 2022 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He appeared in five games last season after returning from injury. Crochet has a career 2.71 ERA with the White Sox.
